About the Pysanki (Pysanka):
The Christian Church adopted the egg as a symbol of Christ’s Resurrection. St. Augustine of Hippo, first described Christ’s Resurrection from the dead as a chick bursting from an egg. This symbolism was enhanced in the Christian Celebration of Pascha (Easter). In the Eastern Catholic Church, it is customary to greet each other with the phrase “Christ is Risen” to which is replied “Indeed He Is Risen," as well as giving Pysanki eggs.
The traditional color is red, but has evolved into many bright vibrant spring colors, still made by hand to this day!
