About the Icon:

Archangel Gabriel, his name means "God is my power" and is one of the few angels mentioned in the Bible. He is the angel who announced the good news of the birth of Jesus Christ and relieved Joseph's fears.

In later years, it is mentioned that he appeared to a monk at the Holy Temple of Protato in Karyes at Mount Athos and carved the phrase "Axion Esti" on a marble block in front of the icon of the Virgin Mary that took its name from the homonymous hymn.
