The Retablo, or ʻboard behind the altarʼ art form, was originally created in New Mexico in the 1800ʼs, and has been handed down the generations to this day. Lynn Garlick has created this unique two sided icon of Santo Nino de Atocha.
The backside reads:
Santo Nino de Atocha, the Christ Child, who miraculously came and gave the prisoners bread in the Moor's prisons. He has also been seen in Mexico, and in Chymayo, New Mexico doing good deeds.
