The Retablo, or ʻboard behind the altarʼ art form, was originally created in New Mexico in the 1800ʼs, and has been handed down the generations to this day. Lynn Garlick has created this unique two sided icon of Saint Nicholas, Patron Saint of Children.

About the Saint:
Nicholas was Bishop pf Myra in Turkey. He knew of three young woman who were going to have to live a life of prostitution because their father could not afford a dowry. One night Nicholas threw a bag of gold through their bedroom window and saved them from this life of shame. During a famine he miraculously provided bread for the poor. Also, during the same famine he was walking by a butcher shop that had meat in the window. He went into the shop. There he found three little boys and saved them from the butcher knife.
