The Retablo, or ʻboard behind the altarʼ art form, was originally created in New Mexico in the 1800ʼs, and has been handed down the generations to this day. Lynn Garlick has created this unique two sided icon of St Luke, the Patron of Doctors and Artists.

About the Saint: Luke is the author of the third Gospel in the Bible. It is considered, by many to be the most poetic. In it, he shines a light on the universality of Christ's message. He was St. Paul's personal physician. He was also thought to have painted portraits of the Madonna and Child. His emblem is the winged ox.
